If you are reading this, it is probably not a job you wanted. Clearing a parent's or relative's home is one of the hardest parts of settling an estate, and it usually has to happen while you are still grieving and on somebody else's timeline.
We do this work often. We will not rush you, and we will not treat a lifetime of belongings as a skip load.
How we work on an estate clearance
- We walk the house with you first — or with the solicitor or executor if that is easier. You tell us what stays, what goes, and what you have not decided about yet.
- We set aside anything personal or valuable. Photographs, documents, letters, jewellery, medals, cash — we have found all of these in wardrobes and under beds. Nothing of that nature leaves the house without a family member seeing it.
- We clear at your pace. Some families want it done in a day. Others need two visits with a week in between. Both are fine.
- You get documentation. An itemised invoice and waste transfer dockets for the estate file.
For solicitors and executors
We work regularly with executors who are managing an estate from abroad or from another county. We can carry out the clearance with keys collected from an agent, send photographs before and after, and invoice the estate directly. If a probate valuation is needed before anything moves, we will wait until it is done.
Donations and reuse
Where the family wishes, usable furniture, clothing and household goods go to reuse rather than disposal. Many people find this is the part that helps most — knowing that a good sofa or a wardrobe full of clothes went to someone who needed it.
